Oral Cancer Awareness!

Did you know that if you’re over 60 years of age, you are in the group which is at the greatest risk for developing oral cancer? Because early intervention is critical, be proactive and examine your mouth on the first of each month – mark it in your calendar. Checking is easy: with a mirror under good lighting, visually check your lips, gums, the insides of your cheeks, your tongue (and under your tongue), and your palate. Then use your finger to feel all around the inside of your mouth. Look for white patches that won’t come off when scraped with a fingernail or ones that bleed when you do, a lump or bump especially if only on one side of your mouth, swollen, red, or bleeding gums, or any persistent sores. Make sure you call us immediately if you notice anything unusual.

We perform free oral cancer screenings to at every check-up to keep you healthy!

Pregnancy and your teeth!

We’re reaching out today to our patients who are expecting. One of the most common oral problems intensified by pregnancy is gingivitis which results from plaque irritation of the gums, making them red, tender, and likely to bleed easily. Also, studies now link gum disease with premature and low birth-weight babies – you can find a lot of information on this on the Internet. Make sure you’re vigilant with your oral home care routine and keep your regular checkups and cleanings on schedule. Once your baby is born, you’ll be teaching them good oral care even before their teeth erupt – ask us how, because your good example will give your child an excellent foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles!
